5 tips to actually achieve your new years resolutions

by Gerson Valverde

January is gone! 2022 is going by so fast and We ask ourselves this questions, how can I achieve my new year´s resolutions? what am i going to do this year? and for that reason we want to encourage you with this few points to remind ourselves how to conquer those mountains over the year to achieve what you want to achieve.

1.Make this a priority

We have realized that we only do what we decide to do, sounds silly right?, but in fact it is that simple. If you give your resolution a sense of urgency your brain will focus on it and it will be more easy to actually act towards that first step. in order for me to actually plan I need to set a space (in my desk and in my agenda) so set a space where you will feel motivated to actually sit down and write down your plan,(I usually play some music, with a cup of coffee) once you are ready, then go to the next step.

2.Make a plan

At this point is easy to imagine and let our imagination fly and that is totally fine is good to dream of where we want to be, but in order to get there we are going to be very Very VERY realistic!!!!

Planning will need very defined steps and what I mean is: a time in your schedule where you only focus on that, a how you will get to do it. for example ill give 1 good and 1 bad example of a plan

wrong: working out more to have a six pack by summer.

its a great dream but it doesn't gives me a step to follow in how to accomplish it.

Good: Go to the 24/7 gym and get a membership on Tuesday at 7 pm (I am not a morning person)set an alarm right now in my phone so I will not forget. Get a water bottle. get my gym outfit ready on Tuesday evening.

If you create a list of steps to follow it will be easier to step towards that daily plan. Having a monthly schedule really helps me. Setting easy goals for a daily plan will remind your brain that you are capable to accomplish what you plan.

3. Stick with your plan as if you life depends on it

For me this is the step that I miss the most because once I have all my plan and I am ready to go all of a sudden there is an inner voice that tells me many reasons why I should not do it, why I should just quit and stay in the couch for 10 more minutes or why is to much work to get all my stuff together. when that happen to me I talk to that inner voice and tell it ´´I am in charge and if I have a plan is because I have a bigger goal that nobody is going to do for meee! so stick with it!! WE ARE Doing it because i say so!´´

4. Repeat and be patient

I am the king of guy who is extremely impatient, I want to see results after one day of trying. Listen, keep your feet on the ground and remember to be realistic. Somethings will take a lot of repetition to actually start bearing fruit, somethings will take months to actually get to see a result I am happy with. remember the inner voice I talked about? it will not leave you and it will comeback stronger when you don´t see the results that you want. So just repeat and be patient, remember you are capable.

5. Keep yourself motivated

Days has gone by probably a few weeks and you start to feel frustrated because you don´t see the results you wanted. I think is time to re-evaluate your plan and daily goals and see if they were realistic. take a pen and your planner sit in your desk write down what results you have seen and make a change if you think is necessary.keep your eyes in your Main Goal and keep yourself motivated. It really helps me to find podcasts that talk about my goals or people who has gone through the same things. Also weekly prices if I have achieve my weekly goals. I usually choose prices that are related to my goals, for example: a high quality paint set if my goal was painting, a new Adidas shirt if my goal was working out for a month. or a gift to give away to a friend if my resolution was to call 10 friends this month.

Remember you are in charge of your life and you are capable to accomplish your goals.
